It’s winter and the dry and cold air often leaves your beautiful skin not looking it’s best. Your skin might be drier than normal, itchy, red, or irritated. We have some of our favorite winter skincare tips for you!

Fight the dry winter skin to keep your skin feeling soft and healthy! While the combination of cold, frigid air outside and the dry heat inside might make your skin unhappy, there are ways you can combat winter blues and skincare during the winter doesn’t have to be a drag!

Did you know? Favorite winter activities to warm yourself up such as sitting by a hot fire or taking a hot shower can totally dry your skin out! Showering with warm or cool water is best – hot water strips your skin of its natural oils.


Preston’s Top Tips for Winter Skincare!

-Remember, you still need SPF even in the winter! Yes, there are less UVB rays in the winter, but levels of UVA are still significant enough to age skin! We say use a sunscreen that has a high UVA rating. UVA is a natural enemy to your skincare routine, even in the winter.
-Stay hydrated! Yes, that means water. Your skin will often be much drier (and sensitive) in colder weather and central heating. Stay hydrated during the day with a fun water bottle to stay motivated. Also, swapping coffee for green tea (which is known for it’s awesome antioxidant effects) is a great way to be less dehydrated!
-Buy a humidifier. In the winter, outdoor air will usually hold onto less water. This leads to air that is drier and colder. Having a humidifier in your home will allow moisture to be restored back into the air. This will help keep your skin hydrated! Keep the humidifier in rooms you spend the most time in. Our tip is to keep indoor humidity levels between 30 to 50 percent. You can also turn it on overnight while you’re sleeping.
-Don’t crank the temperature up too high! You might be tempted to make it nice and toasty in your house after spending some time outside, but try to keep it between 68 to 75 degrees F as recommended by the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology (AOCD).
-Change your skincare routine for the winter! If your skin feels more irritated than usual, you can scale back on the use of skin-care products containing alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) and retinoids. Once your skin is back to normal, you can slowly introduce the products back into your routine. You should also try to avoid products that contain any fragrances or alcohol. This will help your skin retain more of its natural oils.
