INSTRUCTIONS FOR RECTAL ROCKETS & SUPPOSITORIES
The Rectal Rocket is designed to treat hemorrhoids, with the part of the suppository that is inserted into the rectum treating internal hemorrhoids, and the part of the suppository that remains on the outside treating external hemorrhoids.
- The suppository should be used when the patient can lie down for at least six hours.
- The suppository should be at room temperature when placed in the rectum. Run the Rectal Rocket under warm water for a few seconds before insertion.
STEP 1: WASH HANDS
To insert a suppository, you'll first need to clean your hands with soap and water. You may also want to grab a clean single-edge razor blade and lubricating jelly.
STEP 2: USE THE RESTROOM
If possible, go to the bathroom and empty your bowels.
STEP 3: PREPARE SUPPLIES
Gently squeeze the suppository in order to check if it is firm enough to insert. If not, place in the refrigerator for a few minutes or run under cold water with the wrapper still on.
Remove clothing to expose the buttocks. Remove the wrapper from the suppository. If you need to cut the suppository, carefully cut it length wise with a clean, single-edge razor blade. To moisten the tip of the suppository, apply lubricating jelly or apply a small amount of warm water to the rectal area.
STEP 4: GET INTO POSITION
You can either stand with one foot on a chair, or you can lie down on your side with one leg slightly bent toward your stomach and your bottom leg straight.
Relax your buttocks and insert the suppository into the rectum, narrow end first. Gently but firmly, push the suppository past the muscular opening of the rectum. For adults, push it in about 3 inches, for children, about 2 inches, and for small children or infants, about a half-inch. This is to make sure it does not fall out.
STEP 5: SIT OR LIE DOWN
Keep your legs and buttocks closed for several minutes.
