Drug Take Back Day: April 27th, 2024

The 26th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, April 27, 2024 – 10 am to 2 pm. The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

First off, keeping old meds around can be risky. They might fall into the wrong hands, like curious kids or pets, leading to accidents or even misuse. Plus, flushing them down the toilet or tossing them in the trash can harm the environment.

How Can You Participate?

  • Gather Your Unused Medications: It’s super simple: just gather up any unused or expired medications you have lying around. This includes prescription drugs, over-the-counter meds, and even pet medications.
  • Find a Collection Site: The DEA provides a handy collection site locator where you can find a drop-off location near you. Just enter your zip code or city/state to get started. Then, head over to a designated drop-off location near you. These spots are set up all over the place, from pharmacies to community centers. Unfortunately, Preston’s Pharmacy does not participate in this event.
  • Drop Off Your Medications: On April 27th, between 10 AM and 2 PM, bring your medications to the collection site. There’s no need to remove labels or sort the medications; the process is designed to be quick and easy.
  • Spread the Word: Encourage friends and family to participate. Sharing information on social media or through word of mouth can make a big difference.
  • Dispose Responsibly Year-Round: If you miss Take Back Day, don’t worry. The DEA also provides information on year-round disposal locations where you can safely discard medications at any time.
By participating in Drug Take Back Day, you’re not only keeping your home safe but also doing your part to protect the environment and your community. It’s a win-win for everyone!
So mark your calendars for April 27th and join in the effort to clean out those medicine cabinets. Participating in Drug Take Back Day is a simple yet powerful way to help prevent medication misuse and protect our loved ones.
