Sermorelin is a synthetic analogue of growth-hormone releasing hormone that is designed to stimulate the release of human growth hormone (HGH) from the pituitary gland. The growth hormone is naturally produced by the pituitary gland and is necessary for growth in children. In children who fail to grow normally because their bodies are not producing enough growth hormone, this medicine may be used to increase the amount of growth hormone produced by the pituitary gland.

Side Effects

Sermorelin may result in fewer side effects, in comparison to HGH therapy, as it stimulates natural production of HGH rather than direct supplementation of HGH. Some side effects may include: redness at injection site, headaches, nausea, dizziness, or fatigue.

Sermorelin Functions

HGH is involved with many biological functions such as:

  • Stimulate growth and development of, height and body size
  • Promote cell growth and regeneration and accelerate injury recovery
  • Regulate body composition through the breakdown of fats
  • Improve bone health

Sermorelin is primarily used for the diagnosis and treatment of poor growth in children. As a diagnostic tool, studies have demonstrated that a hormonal response to sermorelin 1mg/kg IV may indicate growth hormone deficiency. For treatment, a subcutaneous injection may be administered, with dosing varying between patients. Often time, it is administered at bedtime, as the natural release of HGH increases while asleep.
